The goatee saver

I remember years ago when I sported my first Van Dyke (commonly incorrectly called a "goatee"). Surprisingly, getting shape right proved to be more of a challenge than I initially expected. Face contours and symmetry thwarted me, and it took a few iterations before the results were acceptable. Even to this day, sometimes in an I-don't-really-want-to-be-awake morning grogginess, I'll shave one side a little unevenly than the other, and it takes a few days to make up for the mistake I made.

Then comes this little gem, the "Goatee Saver" (though again, technically it should be called the "Van Dyke Saver", but who'd buy that?) Now admittedly, the web site does have a bit of a cheesy feel. We couldn't put our finger on it right away, but the guy prominently displayed on the front page just looked "off". We realized after a minute or so that the "goatee" he was sporting looked fake, which is further suspect if you consider his "goatee" is red but his flat top is black. The promotional video will also have your cubicle buddies wondering if you're watching porn; but if you look through all the cheese, the idea is actually pretty ingenious and we can see how a lot of guys (and gals) out there might actually find this thing useful.

Now because undoubtedly someone is thinking it (if we were on the other side of the tubes, we'd probably wonder the same thing) no - this is not a beardadvocate.org product in any way. We don't know them and benefit in no way by their success, though the pogonophile community may suffer from their failure, depending on how you look at it. Buying the goatee saver in no way, shape or form lines our pockets.

All in all, we give the "Goatee Saver" concept 4/5 beard units:

I hate circle beards, but love detached goatees.
